Concierge Pediatrician in Tallahassee

At Canopy Pediatrics, a concierge pediatrician isn’t a luxury — it’s the way pediatric care was always meant to work. Direct access to your child’s doctor by text and phone. Same-day and next-day visits. Appointments that last as long as your family needs, not seven rushed minutes. We’re a membership-based pediatric practice in Tallahassee, board-certified and physician-led, and we intentionally keep our patient panel small so every family gets the time and attention they deserve. We’re currently enrolling a limited number of new families.

What is a concierge pediatrician?

A concierge pediatrician is a children’s doctor who works on a membership model instead of the traditional insurance-volume model. Instead of billing your visits through insurance and packing a schedule with dozens of patients a day, a concierge practice charges a flat monthly membership fee and deliberately limits how many families it takes on.

That one structural change is what makes everything else possible. Because Canopy isn’t paid per visit by an insurance company, Dr. Homan and our team aren’t pushed to move you through the room in minutes. There are no copays at the visit, no surprise bills weeks later, and no fighting to get a human on the phone. You get your pediatrician’s actual attention — the same week you need it, and often the same day.

For Tallahassee families who are tired of crowded waiting rooms, rotating providers, and rushed appointments, concierge pediatric care is a calmer, more personal alternative.

How concierge care works at Canopy

Text your pediatrician directly

Have a quick question, or want the doctor to look at a rash? Text us — you can send a photo, too. Many concerns are answered in minutes, without anyone packing up the car.

Longer, unhurried visits

Our appointments run from 30 minutes up to two hours. Your pediatrician gets to actually know your child — their history, their personality, what's normal for them — instead of meeting them cold each time.

Care by phone or video

Many concerns can be handled over the phone or by video, so you're not driving across town for something we can resolve from your kitchen table.

In-house urgent care

Same-day, evening, and weekend appointments when needed — including IV fluids, stitches, and management of simple fractures. Care your child would otherwise wait hours for at an urgent care or ER.

Newborn home visits

For new babies, your first visits happen in your living room. No diaper bag, no waiting room, no exposing a newborn to a lobby full of sick kids.

Meet your concierge pediatrician

Dr. Russell Homan, MD, NABBLM-C, IBCLC is board-certified in both General Pediatrics and Breastfeeding Medicine, and is Tallahassee’s only board-certified breastfeeding physician. He trained at Princeton University and Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons, completed his pediatric residency at the University of Florida, and is trained in Triple P behavioral management for children and teenagers.

Dr. Homan founded Canopy Pediatrics in 2019 for one reason: he wanted to actually spend time with his patients and their families — the kind of long-term, trusting relationship that’s become rare in an insurance-driven system. He’s supported by Elizabeth Walker, NP, a nurse practitioner with more than 20 years of pediatric experience, and by our nursing team, who provide blood draws, rapid testing, IV fluids, nebulizer treatments, tongue-tie correction, and more — all in-house.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a concierge pediatrician?

A concierge pediatrician is a children’s doctor who works on a flat monthly membership fee instead of billing each visit through insurance. This lets the practice limit how many patients it takes on, offer direct access to the doctor, and provide longer appointments without copays or surprise bills.

At Canopy Pediatrics, membership starts at $97/month and is priced by your child’s age, with a family maximum of $350/month regardless of how many children you have. There are no copays and no per-visit charges. See our membership page for the full breakdown.

No. Membership covers your visits, communication, and common in-house tests at Canopy. You’ll still want to keep insurance for things outside our office — like hospital care, specialists, imaging, and prescription medications.

Yes — keep your insurance for hospitalizations, emergency care, specialists, and prescriptions. Your Canopy membership handles your child’s day-to-day pediatric care, sick visits, and well-child visits directly.

Absolutely. You don’t have to be a newborn to join. Whether your child is 2 months or 14 years old, we review prior records, identify any gaps in care, and build a plan to move forward. The door is open.

For families who value time, access, and a real relationship with their child’s doctor, most say yes. You’re trading copays and waiting rooms for direct text access, same-day visits, and unrushed appointments. The best way to decide is a free meet & greet.
